Executive Summary
CME Group is the largest and most diversified derivatives marketplace in the world — the toll booth on the global plumbing of interest-rate, equity-index, energy, agricultural, foreign-exchange and metals risk transfer. In our view it is one of the highest-quality businesses in the public markets: a vertically integrated exchange and clearinghouse with open-interest network effects that competitors have spent two decades failing to dislodge, operating margins north of 60%, almost no need for capital reinvestment, and a management team that returns essentially all free cash flow to owners through a regular dividend plus a large annual variable special dividend.
