Executive Summary

EOG Resources is, in our view, the best-run independent oil and gas producer in the United States — lowest-cost acreage, the deepest premium drilling inventory, a fortress balance sheet, and a regular dividend it has never cut in nearly three decades. It is also, like every exploration-and-production company, a commodity price-taker with no durable moat. That tension defines the investment. At roughly $134 the stock trades near 6x EV/EBITDA and ~8x forward earnings with the lowest net debt of its large-cap peers, but it sits at the high end of its own trailing multiples on firm oil.
